THE MOON IS WATCHING...

0 Lady Moon, your horns point toward the east;
          Shine, be increased:

0 Lady Moon, your horns point toward the west;
          Wane, be at rest.

from Sing-Song by Christina Rossetti

PAST THE FUTURE PRESENT: GOING HOME

Wistful, reflective, soothing... I am en.vel.op'd in a sepia haze...  seeing through the August lens of summer's Dog Days... my first post in over a month.  I've been meditating on the photos I've taken this summer.  This little 'film' was shot from one of my favorite 'locales' ~ the inside of the Southwest Chief.  (I did not get the name of these young Mennonite folk.  If this is you, let me know!)

Note the water bottle, the cell phone...

There are countless untold stories along this rail line, out on this magnificent, beautiful, wide open, abundant and at once unforgiving drought-prone landscape.  I invite you to enjoy this visual narrative, this unwritten story.  As with all work, it is a self-portrait of sorts.  I think it strikes a universal cord.   xoxo, Julie

DREAMING IN GREEN

Summer is reminding me again of the value of pace and moving slowly through this luscious, gorgeous world... rain or shine, plenty or drought, no matter the season yet aware of each and every moment. Grace dances in this circle with Synchronicity and Serendipity ~ Sisters Three. They dance in this three-part entry... as the separate titles become their own poem.

dreaming in green
in their native tongue
through smoke and shadow
comes indigo and gold

It was a revelation to walk in the Elena Gallegos Open Space this morning after yesterday's delicious pouring rain... to see how quickly green was returning to the bunches of blue grama grasses ~ dormant until yesterday!  Everything is singing in green... a crow, even the shy blue scrub jay hiding in a juniper, and the sweet little black-throated gray warbler flitting around these high desert pines.  And me?  Today was the day I fell in love with the one-seeded juniper trees as they whispered secrets about Georgia O'Keeffe.

THROUGH SMOKE AND SHADOW ~ INDIGO AND GOLD

Views looking west toward Corrales, New Mexico and the Romero Fire in the Rio Grande Bosque, June 22, 2012, from the roadside near Sandia Casino, as well as views from and in the Elena Gallegos Open Space closer to the mountains...  Smoke plumes and Apache Plumes, drought dormant Blue Grama Grasses in gold.
